Cycle the Southern Alleghenies

The Alleghenies Region of Pennsylvania has a long history of welcoming cyclists to the six-county region.  Operating the largest pro-amateur road race in the country, the Tour de 'Toona, and successfully hosting the 1992 Olympic Road Trails has earned the region the honor of being named one of the "five top bicycle areas in the country" by Bicycling Magazine.

Now we have made it easy for all cyclists to visit and enjoy the region that boasts some of the east's best roadways, scenery, and unique and interesting attractions. Cycling the Southern Alleghenies a system of 20 tour routes on state and township roads, 25-mountain bike trails through the public lands in the region, and over 210 miles of rails to trails. The 20 on-road routes boast names such as Raging Rapids Adventure Tour, Covered Bridge Scenic Tour, and Tuscarora Mountain Challenge Tour that travel through the region nestled in the Allegheny Mountains. The routes can each be ridden individually in a day, or can be combined for a multiple-day bicycling vacation.

The tours are self-guided and there is something for everyone including the novice, the weekend athlete and the expert cyclist. We provided all of the information that cyclists will need to plan a cycling vacation including maps, que sheets, information about lodging facilities, attractions along the way, eating establishments, shopping opportunities and of course, necessary services.

Cycle the Southern Alleghenies has been developed by The Alleghenies Tourism Council, an Advisory Committee to Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission. Information about the bike trails and routes can be found at www.thealleghenies.com . The Tourism Council continues to develop the project by adding new trails, signs and other enhancements.
